5 Effective Decluttering Tips

Effective DeclutteringEffective decluttering is never easy. It takes a lot of time and effort. Especially when you have to go through a major cleanup at home and would like to get rid of a lot of clutter built up over the years, it can even be an emotional experience.

However, it is important for you to remove clutter for your space to be better organized. You can free up a lot of space and have enough room for newer and better things to come your way. Furthermore, a clean and clutter-free home is simply more beautiful. It will certainly make living more convenient and comfortable.

If you’re simply having a hard time decluttering, here are some tips you can keep in mind.

1. Keep. Sell. Donate. Throw.

When decluttering, especially when you’re dealing with a lot of clutter, you should be very organized. Try deciding quickly whether your stuff should be kept, sold, donated or thrown away. By doing so, you will be left with things you chose to keep.

2. Try to avoid being too sentimental.

Decluttering takes time when you are a generally sentimental person. Perhaps you still wanted to keep a clock that is no longer working just because you had some special memories when you bought it a gazillion years ago. This takes you back to the number 1 tip: try to decide quickly. If it’s something you really wanted to keep, you probably wouldn’t be thinking twice about disposing of it in the first place.

3. Ask a friend for help.

Whether it’s a friend or a family member, it’s always good to have a helping hand. They’re the ones who will remind you that something has to be disposed of already rather than kept for no special reason at all. They’ll also help make things much quicker for you.

4. Use storage boxes and cabinets.

Make use of the storage you already have at home. If the cabinets and drawers are not enough, look for nice and sturdy boxes you can use.

5. Label storage boxes.

When storing away your things, use labels so you won’t have to go through everything when you’re looking for something. That’s where clutter begins — when you simply don’t know where you should place some items or where you should start looking for them so you start messing things up over again.

Hopefully, the tips above can help you effectively declutter your home. Good luck!
